Short answer: janitor+ is the cheaper subscription and Chub AI is the bigger model. janitor+ costs $12.99 a month, and Apple's US App Store now also lists a Janitor+ Annual plan at $99.00, about $8.25 a month. Chub AI is one plan at $20 a month, paid in crypto only, with unlimited use of its own Soji 1.6T model at a 60K context. Over a year that is $99 to $155.88 for Janitor against $240 for Chub. Both are free if you bring your own API key, and both stop being cheap the moment that key starts billing you per token.

Every Chub figure below was read on 19 October 2026 from Chub's subscription page and its guide at docs.chub.ai. Every Janitor figure comes from Janitor's help center (the janitor+ subscription FAQ, the Router article and the chat memory article) and from Apple's US in-app purchase list for the Janitor app, read the same day. Yearly totals and per month figures are our arithmetic.

Is Chub AI or Janitor AI cheaper?

Janitor AI is cheaper on every paid route. janitor+ at $12.99 a month is $7.01 less than Chub's $20, and the annual plan in Janitor's iPhone app brings a year down to $99.00 against $240 for twelve months of Chub. Chub has no yearly price at all, so the gap only widens the longer you stay.

The annual janitor+ plan is new. When we read Apple's list in September it carried a single product, Janitor+ Monthly. On 19 October it shows Janitor+ Monthly at $12.99 and Janitor+ Annual at $99.00, after an app update on 14 October. Janitor's own subscription FAQ, last updated 25 June 2026, still only mentions the monthly price, and its web checkout sits behind a firewall challenge we could not read, so treat the $99 year as an iPhone app price until Janitor prints it on the web. The saving is real either way: $56.88 against paying monthly.

Which has better memory, Chub or Janitor?

Chub's paid model sees more of the conversation. Soji runs at a 60K context, about 60,000 tokens, while janitor+ gives roughly 45,000 and Janitor's free tier about 8,000 to 9,000. Janitor's own help article on chat memory calls the free model's limit "around 8k-9k tokens, give or take" and warns that overloading it pushes older messages out.

For a long running roleplay that difference is the whole purchase. A character who forgets the start of the story at 9,000 tokens is why most people upgrade in the first place. Both paid plans fix that; Chub's goes about a third further, and it charges $7.01 a month more for the privilege. Chub also describes Soji as "multiple times the size of the models used on similar platforms", which is a claim about reply quality you can only judge by trying it on the free trial credits.

Is Chub AI unlimited and is janitor+ unlimited?

Chub's plan is unlimited for one person. Its subscription page defines unlimited as "similar to Netflix": concurrent requests from one account return a 429 error, and usage from tens of devices or round the clock leads to restrictions. janitor+ has no message cap on Janitor's own model either. The difference is the add on: Janitor's Router lets subscribers call third party models inside the site, and that is metered per token on top of the $12.99, the same way your provider bills Janitor.

So if you stay on each site's house model, both are flat. If you want a frontier model inside Janitor, you are back to a meter, and Chub has no equivalent extra bill because its subscription already covers every model it hosts. Our Chub AI subscription breakdown has the full unlimited rules and what happened to the old Mercury and Mars tiers.

Chub AI vs Janitor AI with your own API key

Both front ends are free if you fund your own model, and both get expensive in the same way. A chat site re-sends the whole context with every message, so the context you choose multiplies the per token rate. At Janitor's free context a DeepSeek setup runs about $7.50 a month in our worked example; at janitor+ context the same habit costs about $34.50, more than the subscription itself. At Chub's 60K context the break even for DeepSeek V3 against the $20 plan lands at about 50 replies a day.

Chub's guide lists the keys it accepts: OpenAI, Anthropic, OpenRouter, Google, NovelAI and self hosted Kobold or Ooba. Chub also says its own API works "anywhere that supports OpenAI's APIs", which means a subscriber can point a separate front end at Soji. If you go that route and depend on one hosted endpoint for every chat, a basic uptime check on the API tells you whether a silent chat is your setup or their outage. For Janitor, the cost of each route per message is in our best API for Janitor AI comparison.

Is Chub AI better than Janitor AI?

Chub is better if you want the strongest included model and you are comfortable paying in crypto. Janitor is better if you want to pay by card or through the App Store, use a phone app, or spend less. Janitor has a large community bot library and a free tier that stays usable; Chub is built around community character cards, lorebooks and its own hosted models, and it is web only.

Payment is the practical decider for many US buyers. Chub explains that it takes crypto only to stay free of pressure from card companies and payment processors, which also means no chargeback route and no refund unless Chub grants one. Janitor bills cards through Stripe and sells through Apple and Google, so a dispute goes through a store or a card issuer like any other subscription. Neither is cheap to leave: Janitor calls its subscriptions generally non refundable too.

Who should buy which

Buy janitor+ if you already live on Janitor, want the bigger memory and pay by card; take the $99 annual plan in the iPhone app if you are sure you will stay a year. Buy Chub if you want Soji's 60K context, use your own front end through its OpenAI compatible API, and do not mind a crypto only checkout with no refund route. Stay on either free tier with your own key only if you know your daily reply count, because that number, not the subscription, sets the bill.

There is a third kind of reader in this comparison: the one who keeps going back to a single character and wants her to remember the week, not a library of cards and a token budget. That is what we built. Beauties.ai is $12 a month, or $9 a month billed yearly at $108, paid by card, with six girlfriends written in house, unlimited texting and memory that is not sold by the token. janitor+ annual at $99 is cheaper than our yearly plan, and we would rather say so. We are also tasteful by design, so if explicit roleplay is the point, Chub or Janitor fits you better. If the point is one steady companion, start with the girlfriend gallery above, or read why people leave Chub on our Chub AI alternative page and what changed at Janitor on our Janitor AI alternative page.
