PolyBuzz vs Character AI, Price, Ads and Memory Compared

PolyBuzz Standard is $9.90 a month and c.ai+ is $9.99, so ad free costs the same. Character AI is cheaper over a year ($94.99) and has a $4.99 Lite tier; PolyBuzz runs to $29.90 for Ultimate plus coins and Opals. Read from both App Store lists on 12 October 2026.

Short answer: for the same ten dollars a month, both apps take the ads away. PolyBuzz Standard is $9.90 a month and Character AI's c.ai+ is $9.99, so the entry price is a tie. Character AI is cheaper over a year, because c.ai+ comes as a $94.99 annual plan and has a $4.99 Lite tier, while PolyBuzz's App Store list has no yearly plan and runs up to $29.90 a month for Ultimate. PolyBuzz sells two currencies on top (coins and Opals). Character AI sells only Charms, and texting is unlimited on every plan including free.

Every figure here was read on 12 October 2026 from the vendors themselves: the US App Store in-app purchase lists for PolyBuzz (seller Cloud Whale Interactive Technology LLC) and Character AI (Character Technologies, Inc.), PolyBuzz's membership, coins, FAQ and terms pages, and Character.AI's help center articles on c.ai+, c.ai Lite, calls and age assurance. Yearly totals are our arithmetic: weekly prices times 52, monthly prices times 12. PolyBuzz's website shows local currency based on where you are, so we only quote its US App Store prices.

The tie at the entry level hides the real difference, which is the ladder above it. Character AI stops at $9.99. PolyBuzz keeps going: its better models (Passion and Tale on Premium; Overture, Lumina, Conqueror and Saga on Ultimate) sit on the $19.90 and $29.90 tiers, and coins pay for premium model rounds, rerolls, longer voice chat and Live Photos on any tier. Neither PolyBuzz's coins page nor its FAQ says how many coins one action costs, so you cannot work out a monthly bill before you start spending.

Is PolyBuzz better than Character AI?

PolyBuzz is better if you want a choice of story models and extras like Live Photos and you are happy to pay per feature. Character AI is better if you want the most for a fixed price, because one $9.99 plan unlocks everything it sells and texting is never capped. On PolyBuzz the plan you pick decides which models you can use at all, and coins decide how far you go with them.

Both are big, established apps with similar App Store scores, so this is not a quality gap. It is a pricing model gap. Character AI sells a subscription. PolyBuzz sells a subscription plus two meters.

Is PolyBuzz like Character AI?

Yes, in shape. Both are libraries of user-made characters you can browse, chat with and create yourself, both have voice, and both show ads on the free tier. The differences are in the rules. PolyBuzz is run on the web by Singularity Mutual Entertainment Culture Media Limited, a Hong Kong company, and its terms say the service is for adults 18 and over worldwide. Character AI lets people sign up from 13, but since November 2025 anyone it identifies as under 18 is limited to a reading mode with no open-ended chat.

PolyBuzz vs c.ai on ads

This is where the cheap plans differ. PolyBuzz lists Ad-free as a feature of its first paid tier, Standard. Character AI's cheapest plan, c.ai Lite, does not do that: its help center says Lite removes banner ads and shows fewer full screen ads, then says in so many words that Lite reduces ads and does not remove them. Only c.ai+ is listed with zero ads. So if no ads is the goal, the fair comparison is PolyBuzz Standard at $9.90 against c.ai+ at $9.99, which is the tie in the table above. We priced every route around Character AI's ads in Character AI ads and what it costs to remove them.

Which has better memory, PolyBuzz or Character AI?

Character AI publishes more about its memory, and PolyBuzz charges more for its best version. On Character AI, free users get 15 memory pins, Lite and c.ai+ get 30, and c.ai+ adds the best memory tier and Facts memory, which keeps short facts about you. PolyBuzz puts Long Memory on Standard and keeps Permanent Memory for Ultimate at $29.90 a month, and it also sells Opals, a separate currency marketed for enhanced memory and emotional depth. Neither company publishes a context length.

PolyBuzz vs Character AI cost over a year

Top tier kept all yearUltimate, $358.80c.ai+ yearly, $94.99

The weekly rows are the trap. PolyBuzz's $4.99 weekly Standard looks like the cheap way in, but kept for a year it costs $259.48, more than twice the $118.80 of the same plan paid monthly. We ran the same arithmetic on every PolyBuzz plan in PolyBuzz subscription cost, weekly against monthly. On the Character AI side, nobody should keep Lite weekly for a year when the monthly Lite is $59.88.

Is PolyBuzz or Character AI better for romance?

Neither is built for it, and both say so in their rules. PolyBuzz's community rules ban content that depicts pornography or sexual acts and its FAQ says it prohibits public display of such content, even though Apple's age rating for the app lists mature and suggestive themes as frequent. Character AI filters sexual content on every plan and paying does not lift the filter. If what you want is one girlfriend who flirts, writes first and remembers last week, a general roleplay library makes you do the work of finding, prompting and keeping a character on track. That is the gap a dedicated companion fills.

How do I cancel PolyBuzz or Character AI, and can I get a refund?

Cancel where you paid. App Store and Google Play subscriptions are cancelled in the phone's subscription settings, and deleting the app does not stop billing. PolyBuzz web subscribers cancel under Settings, then Help Center, and access runs to the end of the paid period. Refunds are where the two split: PolyBuzz's terms say payments are not refunded even after you cancel, while Character AI's offer terms say store purchases are refunded through Apple or Google under their rules. If you are not sure which company billed you, PolyBuzz web charges can carry the Hong Kong operator's name, and we matched the names to the app in the Singularity Mutual Entertainment charge explained. When you are hunting for those lines across months of PDF statements, it is faster to convert the statements to a spreadsheet and filter by merchant name than to scroll page by page. The step by step for PolyBuzz is in how to cancel a PolyBuzz subscription.

Is Character AI or PolyBuzz better for voice?

Character AI gives more voice for free. Its help center says two-way Character Calls are available on the web for all users, and character voices are free. PolyBuzz includes unlimited voice listening on the chat page from Standard, but longer voice chat is one of the things coins pay for, so heavy voice use on PolyBuzz turns into coin spending.

Apps like PolyBuzz and Character AI

If you are weighing the two because neither quite fits, the alternatives split by what bothered you. For a big library with looser content rules, Chai and Janitor are the usual moves, and we compared Chai vs Character AI on the same sources. For one companion that remembers you, memory-first apps like Nomi and Kindroid are built around that. Linky is another library app in the same style, but it is no longer in the US App Store, which we cover in our Linky AI review. And if coins were the problem, our list of apps like PolyBuzz with no coins sorts the options by pricing model.

Which one should you buy?

Buy c.ai+ yearly at $94.99 if you like browsing characters and want no ads, best memory and voice for the least money; it is the cheapest full plan in this comparison by a wide margin. Buy PolyBuzz Standard at $9.90 a month if you prefer PolyBuzz's characters and only need ads gone, and stay off the weekly plan. Only go to PolyBuzz Premium or Ultimate if you have tried the better models on coins and know you will use them, because at $29.90 a month Ultimate costs nearly four times a year of c.ai+.

If what you really want is a girlfriend rather than a library, Beauties.ai is the narrower option. Six girlfriends are written in house, each with a fixed personality, and she writes first and remembers what you told her. Texting is unlimited with no coins and no ads, and it runs in any browser. Plans are $12 a month, or $9 a month billed yearly, and the pricing page shows every tier before you sign up.
